Chocolate Acai Protein Smoothie (vegan, gluten free, sugar free)
I recently discovered SunWarrior raw organic vegan protein powder and it is SO delicious I actually look forward to making protein shakes. It is not gritty or chalky and has a rich chocolate flavor. I have the Warrior Blend which is pea and hemp protein. SunWarrior also makes vanilla, natural and a mocha flavor that I am excited to try. Best of all, they use only stevia to sweeten the protein powder so you aren't getting any added sugars.
This smoothie is based on a smoothie I saw Kimberly Snyder make on a live video but she used some ingredients that I can't eat right now. I made some modifications and came up with a super yummy, rich, chocolatey shake that tastes like a treat. Genevieve and I love it as an afternoon snack on hot days. It's also filling enough from the avocado and chia seeds to be a meal replacement. Frozen acai puree is one of my favorite ingredients to throw into smoothies because it is so high in antioxidants and contains no sugar. You can find acai in the frozen fruit section of the grocery store.
Chocolate Acai Protein Smoothie
1 cup of non-dairy milk (I used coconut)
1/2 an avocado (flesh removed from the skin)
1 packet of frozen, unsweetened acai puree
1 Tbs of chia seeds mixed with 1/4 cup of water (let sit for 5-10 minutes)
1/2 tsp of vanilla extract or vanilla bean powder
1/2 tsp of cinnamon
pinch of sea salt
Optional: raw cacao nibs or dark chocolate chips for garnish
Add the non-dairy milk to the blender first and then add the rest of the ingredients. Blend until smooth and enjoy! Garnish with raw cacao nibs or chocolate chips if you like!
